So I'm at the World Science Fiction Convention in Montreal. I got to shake someone's hand tonight and I'm still kind of excited about it. Who's hand did I shake?

Nobel Prize winning economist: Paul Krugman!

I just got a fundraising email that begins

Dear (Lynxreign's real name)

Barak Obama is a better man than me.

and ends

James Carville

What more can be said?

Apparently he's headed to Trinidad & Tobago. I wonder if I know anyone who'd care about that...

It is a simple law.

No employee of any company at any level can make more than 100 times the lowest paid employee of that company.

You're paying someone $20,000 a year, then you can make 2 million a year. Want a raise? You have to raise the salaries of the lowest paid employees.

Now, tell me why you don't like my law.

Franken lead Coleman by 225 votes.
Coleman (after stating when he was ahead that Franken should just drop out) has complained and whinged and brought the vote to court. He complained and won the admission of 351 more absentee ballots into the count. He thought those would help him and they have now been counted and added into the vote totals.
Franken leads Coleman by 312 votes.
If Coleman keeps pushing Franken will eventually have a landslide victory.
Coleman should drop out now.

Today is a fun day, Ann Coulter is under investigation for voter fraud, voting in CT while living in NYC.
Connecticut's Elections Enforcement Commission is making a "thorough investigation" of whether the conservative pundit broke the law by voting in the Nutmeg State while living in New York City

The new RNC head, Michael Steele, is under investigation for "among other things ... Steele had his campaign pay more than $35,000 to his sister's company for work that was never performed"

This is on Salon, so you may have to watch an ad or something.

However, with the stimulus package in the news, I thought people might like a slideshow of some fruits of the last big stimulus package.

Stimulus works to fix problems like the ones we have today.

An exerpt from Obama's speech to House Democrats )

I'd love for him to deliver a similar speech on national tv. He's due to have a State-of-the-Union-Like address soon, if he gives this kind of speech, great.

The biggest problem is our Right Wing media. Hell, even NPR is far too far to the right these days, interviewing Republicans as though they were still in power.

My favorite parts are where he points out what got us into this mess, where the deficit came from and the line
So then you get the argument, well, this is not a stimulus bill, this is a spending bill. What do you think a stimulus is? That's the whole point. No, seriously. That's the point.

At this point Republicans are like a mule, hit 'em in the head with a 2x4 and get their attention.

Since I went to work today, I went outside at noon and spent my lunch break listening to the inauguration in my car.

I have to say I was quite amused that Biden replaced Cheney, then noon arrived while music was playing meaning that Bush was no longer President and then at around 7 after Obama became President.

And Roberts screws up the oath? So strange. Were I being petty I'd say that shows the quality of the Right wing justices.

I was so very pleased that he emphasized science, that he discussed this nation's history good and bad and that he included non-believers in his speech.

The only part I didn't care for came early when he talked about us being at war with terrorism, but even that was ameliorated later in the speech.

I teared up quite a few times listening to the speech and just before listening to Arethra Franklin and the classical piece. It is at times like this that I am proudest of my nation.

May this administration live up to its promise.

It surprises me a little just how excited I am about today.

Marxist-Leninist Mao Zedong Ultraman to the rescue!

Though you'll likely have to watch an ad to read this, I thought it worth a post.

There are 36 distinct Ultramen!

(except the Republican. HA!)

I know [ profile] chaoticmoth posted about this earlier, but what a great race.

He's only been the President-Elect for a week, he still has 2 months before he is President and yet there's already been a wonderful result from his election.

Wednesday Morning I awoke with no pain in my right shoulder. I'd had pain in that shoulder for several months and it has been absent since Wednesday morning. It has vanished completely.

Unexpected and pleasant!

Last night I celebrated the Democratic wins with a snack:
Aged cheddar-horseradish cheese with garlic-bagel chips.
An effite-liberal snack!
It tasted like victory.

I went to CNN.Com to check and see if they'd called IN, NC or MO and indeed, they've fnially called IN for Obama. However, the headline startled me. Michael Chrighton has died. I had no idea he was ill.

and then I'll go to bed.

I was born just 2 days before Martin Luther King Jr. was assasinated. Now, in my 40th year, I just watched the first African-American president give his victory speech. As Obama said, change is what can make this country great and it is why I have tears of joy in my eyes tonight.
