I was pleased to discover that the Bob Newhart Show is on Hulu. I've been watching the series in order this week and I made a discovery.
I've watched the first 7 episodes or so at this point and it has been mentioned in at least two of them that Bob LOVES banana cream pie. [livejournal.com profile] jeffwik loves banana cream pie. He also loves Bob Newhart. Coincidence? I think not.

Yesterday I was watching the Packers game on the plane. The big story of the game was Aaron Rodgers succeeding Brett Favre as the starting QB for the Packers.

At one point they listed what happened to the various QBs that replaced legends. They listed a bunch like Namath, Montana, Elway and Marino and the QBs that followed. The announcer, I think it was Ron Jaworski, said

"Each of these situations was unique and this one's no different."

I laughed loud enough that [livejournal.com profile] emilytheslayer heard me over her headphones and asked me what happened.

Are you a fan of the TV show?

Then see this movie. It was pitch-perfect. They had just enough references to the original show without trying to redo it exactly. The casting was amazing and while there was more action than there would have been in the original show, it felt like the kind of action they would have done had they wanted to do an action scene. In fact, that was the best part of the movie: everything they did felt like it is how it would have happened in the original show. The way they handled problems, the way the characters interacted, the setups for jokes, the way those jokes played out were all the way they should have been. And yet they managed to keep it from seeming like they were trying to be the original characters.

I've rarely been so pleasantly surprised by a movie.
Hell, I'm hoping for a sequel.

We were watching the Special Features on the Scrubs dvds recently and there was a bit where JD had to ask a question of a therapist that he knew she'd say "yes" to because he was pretending to ask her out. In the outtakes, he had a bunch of questions that were funny in their absurdity or obviousness. They ended up going with "On the Smurfs, was Papa Smurf the leader?", but there were many other good ones.

Your task to amuse yourselves (and me) for the afternoon:

Ask questions that are sure to get an answer of "Yes".

Is Pushing Daisies ever coming back? Or was it canceled with the strike?
