WFNX

Listening to the radio this morning I switched to FNX a few times as NPR was shilling roses for its Valentine's Day fundraiser. I absolutely had to switch when Bob Oakes started coughing and the asshat who runs On Point, Tom Ashbrook, began chortling about how they'd been eating rose petals and Bob had eaten too many too quickly and was how coughing them up. That was incredibly disgusting imagery for me, so I switched stations quickly.

Over on FNX they were advertising their first "Goth Party". Apparently they're having a big party and playing Goth music and hoping everyone dresses for the event. The only reason I remember this is because I was quite amused by their closing statement:

No Sparkle-Vampires will be admitted.

So Tom Ashbrook. I used to listen to him a lot cause he was on at drive time, and you know that habit he has where he always uses a guest's full name? "So, Lynx Reign, what do you think about what our caller said?" I'm listening to him interview Lou Reed, and he does that one on Lou, and Lou says "Well, Tom Ashbrook..." and trails off. Tom took like three seconds to recover his poise.

That story may have been funnier before I told it.

Be very afraid.

No, it is funny, especially 'cause I can practically hear him doing that and I would have loved to hear one of his interviewees mocking him.

Gawd. Do you know who the FNX dj was? I know a couple of those guys.

It was whomever does their canned ads.

The opening theme to On Point, with that weird "run the tape backwards" part/ For some reason bugs me so badly I'm got the shivers just THINKING about uit now.

And yeah, the week before [Foo]'s Day when NPR does the constant shilling drives me up a tree.

It is just so pretentious. I like to think Ashbrook is in charge of putting in the tape and can't figure out how to get it to run forwards.
He's a terrible interviewer, has a horrible speaking tempo and seems to miss every point made on his show.

No Sparkle-Vampires? Ah, shucks. :D

You should*so* re-title your LJ that!

And I'm too tired to go back and reorganize that sentence!
