CD Boxes

After looking fruitlessly for several years, I've finally found the perfect CD storage boxes. My mom found them while she was packing to move. They're made by U-Line and are designed as mailers for 100 CDs. They fold together out of one piece of cardboard, much in the way comic book boxes do. They're sturdy, look nice and hold 100 CDs spine up so you can read the title, in 4 rows of 25. They are $2.46 each, which is cheaper than I thought, but you have to buy 50 at a time.

So far, so good. I really wanted these, so I splurged and bought a pack of 50. When I went to place the order, it told me that I couldn't use UPS because the package was either too large or too heavy so I'd have to have an alternate shipper. The cost of shipping: $86.

$86 for shipping!! I saw there was an option for pickup at "one of our locations". It was plural, so I figured I'd look. Lo and Behold, there is a location not 20 minutes from here. I went and got them myself and they are indeed heavy! Plus, since they're all 1 piece of cardboard, they are large. The package just fit in the back of my Pathfinder.

Now that I have them, I'm quite pleased. I've packed up all the CDs in the living room and they look much nicer than the large general purpose boxes. They take up less space and are a better fit than the plastic pieces of crap I'd had custom made. Now I just need to get rid of the plastic things and I'm all set.

Yay to organizing!

So do you have them sorted by reverse alphabetical by chronology?

[identity profile] lynxreign.livejournal.com 2006-01-05 04:25 pm (UTC)(link)
Why would I sort them that way? They're sorted by last name of girlfriend I had when I bough them after sorting by severity of breakup.

No, seriously they aren't sorted at all. These are ones I haven't listened to yet and I want to keep them random until they've been judged.

When you need storage for CDs you HAVEN'T listened to, you have a problem.

No, no. It is fun! You get cds really cheap based on a title or song title or cover art or band name and give it a listen. Sometimes good, sometimes bad. Then you get rid of the bad. It just takes awhile to go through them. Plus, [livejournal.com profile] joncwriter left all his CDs when he moved out and I haven't really gone through them yet. I'm sure I'll be ditching a large portion of them as there's some real crap in there. So far, the ratio of CDs good enough to keep to CDs to get rid of in the ones I bought based on the above criteria is about 7-3.
So I am getting rid of them and I'm also going to be ditching my vinyl that I have CD dupes of.

If you actually listen to them, then more power to you. I tend to buy CDs, listen to them fresh, and then it is a long time until I listen to them again.

[identity profile] lynxreign.livejournal.com 2006-01-05 05:46 pm (UTC)(link)
I actually listen to them and pull older cds from my shelves on a frequent basis.

[identity profile] chaoticmoth.livejournal.com 2006-01-05 05:49 pm (UTC)(link)
So for you instead of not buying a starbucks coffee every day you could stop buying CDs and pay off those loans. :)

[identity profile] lynxreign.livejournal.com 2006-01-05 05:58 pm (UTC)(link)
I have stopped for the most part. I have only spent on CDs once in the last 3 months. That once was a present to me for the holidays.

I've gotten my main credit card down 40% from its peak without driving up the other. I'll probably try to get a loan to pay off the smaller amount either this month or next.

You could always make money as a research subject....

[identity profile] lynxreign.livejournal.com 2006-01-05 06:37 pm (UTC)(link)
Not much from what I've seen.

[identity profile] chaoticmoth.livejournal.com 2006-01-05 06:39 pm (UTC)(link)
Depends on what you are willing to do. Or should I say have done to you.

The secret is to get into several at one time.

[identity profile] lynxreign.livejournal.com 2006-01-05 06:43 pm (UTC)(link)
And so, for this risk to my health and life, what do I get, a few hundred bucks? No thanks.

If it is just filling out forms about my daily life, fine, but then I bet I make a few tens of dollars. Again, no thanks.

[identity profile] chaoticmoth.livejournal.com 2006-01-05 06:46 pm (UTC)(link)
So what's your price? :)

[identity profile] lynxreign.livejournal.com 2006-01-05 06:55 pm (UTC)(link)
At least $1000 for no longer than 40 hours of work or a month of elapsed time, whichever is shorter.

[identity profile] chaoticmoth.livejournal.com 2006-01-05 07:01 pm (UTC)(link)
So $25/hour. You should be able to find studies that pay that.

[identity profile] lynxreign.livejournal.com 2006-01-05 07:06 pm (UTC)(link)
Not $25/hr. If the study is for 1 hour a day for a month or 2 hours a week for a month I'd still want $1000 by the end of that month.

[identity profile] chaoticmoth.livejournal.com 2006-01-05 07:18 pm (UTC)(link)
Picky, picky, picky. It's only your health and time we are talking here!

[identity profile] lynxreign.livejournal.com 2006-01-05 07:31 pm (UTC)(link)
Exactly.
And as I've said before Time is NOT money. Time is far more valuable than money could ever be.

True 'dat.

[identity profile] joncwriter.livejournal.com 2006-01-05 05:17 pm (UTC)(link)
Enjoying my cds so far, Lynxie? Good to hear that you managed to get them out of those boxes. :)

[identity profile] joncwriter.livejournal.com 2006-01-05 05:25 pm (UTC)(link)
Ha! That was [livejournal.com profile] emmalyon's. Even I'm not that bad!

[identity profile] lynxreign.livejournal.com 2006-01-05 05:26 pm (UTC)(link)
Sure, blame that on her, Mr. N*Sync.

[identity profile] joncwriter.livejournal.com 2006-01-05 05:29 pm (UTC)(link)
Yep, that I am doing, cuz it's the truth!

[identity profile] urnesha.livejournal.com 2006-01-05 05:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Even I don't listen to N'Sync! And that's saying something! lol

[identity profile] emmalyon.livejournal.com 2006-01-05 08:52 pm (UTC)(link)
That one was a gift, from a relative of Mark's.

[identity profile] emmalyon.livejournal.com 2006-01-05 08:49 pm (UTC)(link)
The plastic ones: recyclable?

[identity profile] lynxreign.livejournal.com 2006-01-05 09:11 pm (UTC)(link)
Maybe
