Poll

"A new Pew Research poll shows Sen. Barack Obama holds his widest national margin yet over Sen. John McCain, 53% to 39%, among likely voters."

--Electoral-Vote.com

A 14 point lead and that still doesn't take into account 3rd parties.

And that poll wrapped on Sunday, so likely doesn't take the Powell endorsement into account.

Did you see the analysis of the tracking polls on fivethirtyeight today? Good insight into how he pulls his numbers together. He didn't address Pew, but my sense is they're pretty straight shooters. I'd guess that result is a tidge inflated but not much.

I think the inflated part will be compensated for by the votes Barr pulls off.
And then there's the Powell endorsement.
And I hesitate to mention it, but the visit to his dying grandmother certainly isn't going to hurt him.

Unless he smothers her with a pillow or something. I mean, he's a Democrat, there are only 14 days left and he's up by a projected 753 electoral votes - he has to do SOMETHING drastic and soon to bungle this one!

Agreed! This article sums it up quite nicely.

Um, last I heard, the grandma has a broken hip, which can be fatal, but isn't generally. In either case, no, the visit home won't hurt him.

[identity profile] head58.livejournal.com 2008-10-21 10:42 pm (UTC)(link)
The current reports are that she is "gravely ill." Not sure if it is complications from the hip or what. But that's probably just liberal media spin to dig up sympathy for Obama, right?

[identity profile] vampyrusgirl.livejournal.com 2008-10-22 12:07 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, a lot of really elderly people have complications after surgeries like that, so it very well may be.

[identity profile] telepresence.livejournal.com 2008-10-22 12:17 am (UTC)(link)
She's 85 years old and has had health problems for a while.

And broken hips actually have a really high mortality rate for the elderly.

A funny/embarassing story I think Jon Stewart should report on: I just got all freaked out in a conversation with [livejournal.com profile] jeffwik because I was looking at a poll that showed Obama in just a 51 point lead over McCain's 49.

That poll? Was a Nickelodeon Kid's mock election poll.

(Shame!)

Yeah. I like to think that my commitment to comedy is *just that strong*... ;p

The Weekly Reader magazine(remember that?)polls the kids every election year, and have an almost perfect record at identifying the eventual winner.
Probably because the kids vote based on what they hear their parents saying.
