Magic Cards

Should I sell mine? All of them or just some? I do have that Phil Foglio land game around somewhere that requires Magic Land cards and I probably couldn't sell those anyway.

I've been keeping them on the theory that we may all want to play again some day and that I wouldn't get much for them anyway.

Give Brian a call and see if his store would be interested in them. www.pop-comics.com

People still do buy those, you might try selling them online....

[identity profile] chaoticmoth.livejournal.com 2006-01-11 06:10 pm (UTC)(link)
Depends, do you play? And do you want to gamble on their value in the future?
If No and No, then sell them all.
If Yes and Yes, keep them all.
If No and Yes, keep them all
If Yes and No, sell the ones you don't play with anymore.

It is no and no, with a caveat to the first no. I'm keeping them because we might want to play them in the future.

Depends on how many you have, what conditions and which ones.

In general, the magic 'market' crashed several years ago, so don't expect to make a huge amount off of them. Certain cards are highly sought after, but most are not. I've been planning on selling off our collection for some time, but it's a hassle to inventory and categorize thousands of different cards for the purpose of shopping them around. Suppose we'll have to do it sooner or later, though.

MmmHmmmm. It's called hoarding and it is treatable.

[identity profile] lynxreign.livejournal.com 2006-01-11 06:21 pm (UTC)(link)
Apparently some cards on EBay are still going for hundreds of dollars.
Most of my cards are in great condition as most haven't been used and have been in card boxes since I got them.
I have lots from second edition and Arabian Nights through around 1995.

What is it with you and the hoarding thing? Is that the latest trendy diagnosis?

[identity profile] urnesha.livejournal.com 2006-01-11 06:25 pm (UTC)(link)
What are magic cards?

[identity profile] chaoticmoth.livejournal.com 2006-01-11 06:28 pm (UTC)(link)
This isn't about me, this is about your OCD. :)

[identity profile] lynxreign.livejournal.com 2006-01-11 06:32 pm (UTC)(link)
I have no OCD

[identity profile] telepresence.livejournal.com 2006-01-11 06:34 pm (UTC)(link)
Cards for a game called "Magic: The Gathering", which was huuuge for a while and spawned a whole market for collectable card games (think Pokemon). For a while you could sell Magic cards for fairly ridiculous money, I financed my first apartment from the sales of some of my Magic cards. Magic card sales and trading also kept a lot of comic book and hobby stores afloat for a while. And it led to a lot of little kids being ripped off by speculators. And then the bubble burst market crashed horribly.

The actual card game was pretty fun at first, but slowly over time as more and more cards got released and the rules got more and more complex, and the dedicated players got more and more specialized and cutthroat, my enjoyment diminished greatly. I haven't played in years, and got rid of my last cards about a year ago.

Wow. You geeks gamers can be harsh! :) Never heard of it but I've never been much of a gamer so that's not surprising. Also anything beyond Clue, Pictionary and Scrabble is way expensive in Trinidad so we don't actually play a wide variety of board games here. I'll change that when I start my board game club. ;)

Stage 1: Denial

I am surprised you got a straight answer to your question, it was ripe for a creative one. :)

[identity profile] lynxreign.livejournal.com 2006-01-11 06:41 pm (UTC)(link)
So where do you stand on my getting rid of cards vs. keeping them for play by all in later years?

[identity profile] lynxreign.livejournal.com 2006-01-11 06:42 pm (UTC)(link)
Have you fixed your OCD?

[identity profile] telepresence.livejournal.com 2006-01-11 06:42 pm (UTC)(link)
Sell them for whatever value you can get without expending too much effort and never look back.

[identity profile] telepresence.livejournal.com 2006-01-11 06:47 pm (UTC)(link)
It's true. I'll give some less informative/more snarky answers:

"What are magic cards?"

The best hole to dump money in in the mid nineties besides a coke addiction.

Yep, I made it all the way to acceptance and then was able to let go of things. I sold off my water damaged D&D stuff in the late 90's, finally let go of Diablo and Diablo II when I donated them to a thrift shop, and have donated tons of books to the library over the years. I have gone through several "life cleanings" over the years and really do not own a whole lot of "stuff" these days.

[identity profile] chaoticmoth.livejournal.com 2006-01-11 06:48 pm (UTC)(link)
The minimal effort would be to take it to one of those companies that actually do the selling.

[identity profile] head58.livejournal.com 2006-01-11 06:51 pm (UTC)(link)
Or to Brian, as I said way up there. Am I a Phantom Zone criminal here? Can nobody hear me? Hello???

[identity profile] chaoticmoth.livejournal.com 2006-01-11 06:53 pm (UTC)(link)
Well sure, but the answers wouldn't have been nearly as prolific if we left it there. :)

[identity profile] lynxreign.livejournal.com 2006-01-11 06:53 pm (UTC)(link)

Or, as our friend Brian found out, the reverse.

If only we knew someone Lynxie could sell them to. Oh well. *walks through your incorporeal form*
