Should I sell mine? All of them or just some? I do have that Phil Foglio land game around somewhere that requires Magic Land cards and I probably couldn't sell those anyway.

I've been keeping them on the theory that we may all want to play again some day and that I wouldn't get much for them anyway.

Depends, do you play? And do you want to gamble on their value in the future?
If No and No, then sell them all.
If Yes and Yes, keep them all.
If No and Yes, keep them all
If Yes and No, sell the ones you don't play with anymore.

It is no and no, with a caveat to the first no. I'm keeping them because we might want to play them in the future.

MmmHmmmm. It's called hoarding and it is treatable.

What is it with you and the hoarding thing? Is that the latest trendy diagnosis?

This isn't about me, this is about your OCD. :)

Have you fixed your OCD?

Yep, I made it all the way to acceptance and then was able to let go of things. I sold off my water damaged D&D stuff in the late 90's, finally let go of Diablo and Diablo II when I donated them to a thrift shop, and have donated tons of books to the library over the years. I have gone through several "life cleanings" over the years and really do not own a whole lot of "stuff" these days.

Good for you. Now you just need to get down to a spartan level and you can start the hair shirt part of the therapy.

What helped was having stuff in boxes because our apartment was too small, and then realizing that I really didn't miss the things. I do occasionally hold onto things past when I should, but now I am more likely to eventually get rid of them.

I definitely enjoy having space for the stuff I do own. There are times I think about getting rid of a lot of the stuff we own and having more space, like in Brazil, but I don't think I can convince Amy to go that Spartan.

I'm in the middle of going through things I have and getting rid of stuff that is junk (which I've been doing for awhile) and things I just don't want any more (which is new). There's no need to be pushy about it, especially as I know few ways that work better to get me to not do things.

"There's no need to be pushy about it, especially as I know few ways that work better to get me to not do things."

I am stopping myself from even contemplating how to exploit this trait of yours. :)

I actually know what you mean. Dumping things you have had for years is a slow process and one that has to be done when you are ready to do it.

From: [identity profile] lynxreign.livejournal.com
Exactly.

And I don't believe for a minute that there isn't some part of your brain working on exploiting it : -P

It may very well be a subconcious process. :)

actually this is something I have been dealing very badly with. I seem to accumulate junk all the time, and it's just that there's a lot of it, and it's not very easy to remember where you got what stored? This is coming up right now, since I've been receiving shit I left behind in Japan, and my parents are packing up.
what are the reasons you tend to keep junk?

Hmm. I could be wrong but I don't actually feel that Lynx has a lot of junk. He has a lot of stuff but I don't consider it junk. *shurg* If I had money to buy stuff or lives somewhere where a softcover novel was $8 instead of the $45 it is in Trinidad, I would have a lot more stuff than I do now.

I do plan on buying every single Star trek novel ever published. Hee.

ah sweetie, I'm being all negative again ;) right now everything I own seems like junk, though I would defend it to the last drop of blood ;)

Memories, mostly. Plus I collect things.
Girlfriend memorabelia is the worst. That's why I have a bustier/corset thing in my closet. That was Tonya's. I need to get rid of those, really.

Yeah, yeah you do. Might send the wrong impression to anyone who happens to see it, including future girlfriends.

Exactly. Well, that or the, "why is another woman's clothing in your closet?" thing. "From years ago, suuuure."
