UHaul

Never use www.uhaul.com. They are useless and worse, counter-productive. If you want a trailer or a truck, find a UHaul dealer near you, or several, and negotiate directly with them.
I tried to use the web site to rent a trailer for [livejournal.com profile] kaisilverwolf's move this weekend. She lives in Long Valley, where did they give me a pickup? Franklin. North of Sparta. 32 miles away on back highways. Probably a 45-60 minute drive from there to Long Valley. Sparta is back of beyond and Franklin is beyond that!
So they called me at 3:45 yesterday to tell me I had a 9AM pickup today. I was driving home at that time and arrived home at around 6. The local place was already closed by then, the national office could only tell me to call the regional office and the regional office closes at 7. The national office said they'd have the regional office call me. They didn't. I got through to them this morning at 7:30 AM and the only option I was given was to cancel my reservation. No reschedule, no different location, no different trailer size, nothing. So I cancelled it.
On the way in to work, I stopped at a UHaul Center off Rt. 22 in Bethlehem, PA. I said "I need a trailer" they said "OK, here you go." It is currently hooked up to my truck in the parking lot and all is well. It was supposed to go to someone headed to Texas, but he hadn't picked it up in 2 days so they gave it to me. Now I just have to call the drop off point so I know how to get there and everything is set.

The site were pretty damn worthless for us too, although sometimes the places aren't much better.

I hear you! I keep trying to use Uhaul, but the reps have always been a pain, and definitely don't want to rent anything over night. But sometimes you need all day!

I'm found that while gas stations and the like are pretty variable, the Official U-Haul Centers are quite good.

We had trouble with the one in Little Rock. That's how we ended up with a much bigger truck than we needed.

Also, I realize the horrible error I made in my previous post. See, I'd started out saying "they" were worthless, then when I changed it to "the site," I forgot to change the were to was. Because I'm still waking up. I know no one cares, just figured I'd put it out there. And it gives me a chance to use this icon.

You know, until you said that I had no idea what you were talking about. Thank goodness for the grammar correction!
And while you may have had a bigger truck, at least you had a truck.

You're making fun of me, aren't you? We are no longer friends.

The part about the truck is true, though. But it was still a pain in the ass to be told one thing and then given something different.

What? Why would I ever make fun of you? Other than to see that delightful icon, that is.
Oh yeah, it certainly is. When I rented a compact car from Alamo and they gave me an SUV it was weird. Worked out in the end, but the extra gas was annoying.

I dislike u-haul and only use them if forced to.

No-one else rents trailers.

[identity profile] chaoticmoth.livejournal.com 2006-07-13 04:17 pm (UTC)(link)
How does the price compare to a van rental?

[identity profile] lynxreign.livejournal.com 2006-07-13 04:22 pm (UTC)(link)
Much less when you consider it is a 1 way trip and I'd have no way of getting home.

True. :)
