Never use www.uhaul.com. They are useless and worse, counter-productive. If you want a trailer or a truck, find a UHaul dealer near you, or several, and negotiate directly with them.
I tried to use the web site to rent a trailer for
kaisilverwolf's move this weekend. She lives in Long Valley, where did they give me a pickup? Franklin. North of Sparta. 32 miles away on back highways. Probably a 45-60 minute drive from there to Long Valley. Sparta is back of beyond and Franklin is beyond that!
So they called me at 3:45 yesterday to tell me I had a 9AM pickup today. I was driving home at that time and arrived home at around 6. The local place was already closed by then, the national office could only tell me to call the regional office and the regional office closes at 7. The national office said they'd have the regional office call me. They didn't. I got through to them this morning at 7:30 AM and the only option I was given was to cancel my reservation. No reschedule, no different location, no different trailer size, nothing. So I cancelled it.
On the way in to work, I stopped at a UHaul Center off Rt. 22 in Bethlehem, PA. I said "I need a trailer" they said "OK, here you go." It is currently hooked up to my truck in the parking lot and all is well. It was supposed to go to someone headed to Texas, but he hadn't picked it up in 2 days so they gave it to me. Now I just have to call the drop off point so I know how to get there and everything is set.

Date: 2006-07-13 03:16 pm (UTC)Also, I realize the horrible error I made in my previous post. See, I'd started out saying "they" were worthless, then when I changed it to "the site," I forgot to change the were to was. Because I'm still waking up. I know no one cares, just figured I'd put it out there. And it gives me a chance to use this icon.

Date: 2006-07-13 03:29 pm (UTC)Oh yeah, it certainly is. When I rented a compact car from Alamo and they gave me an SUV it was weird. Worked out in the end, but the extra gas was annoying.
