lynxreign: (Eating Tiger)
Or however it is spelled.

[livejournal.com profile] emilytheslayer and I went to a Shabu Shabu restaurant last night for our 2 year anniversary. I'd never had that kind of Japanese food before and that is a tragedy. This may be my new favorite meal. You get a broth or two and plates of raw meat and plates of vegetables. They turn on a hot plate built into the table and bring the broths to a furious boil. You then skewer the very thinly sliced meats and submerge them for from 3 to 20 seconds depending on the meat and how you like it cooked. You can do the same with the vegetables or just put them in the broth to add flavor. Once you take it out, you take it off the skewer, pick it up with chopsticks and either eat it or dip it in soy sauce that you can flavor with a variety of things like garlic or hot sauce.

We had the chicken and the prime rib and vegetables with a beef stock and a miso stock. All combinations were good. The stock came in a nifty split bowl. The only food I ate after only waving it above the bowl was some spinach. We must go back. Plus, there are a bunch of Pho restaurants nearby. I think I may want to simply eat my way through Chinatown.

Also, [livejournal.com profile] head58, thanks for the parking suggestion. The garage seemed completely denuded of zombies. We figured it is 'cause we parked on the 3rd floor and all the zombies were in high places. The worst part of the garage is that the spaces seem designed to keep you from parking.
