The Rest of Thanksgiving
Dec. 20th, 2009 12:26 pmI was going to do a post for each day, but I got lazy. Sadness. I'll try to compress all the awesomeness into this one post instead, but much will likely be left out and I may put some events out of order, but all the following things did happen that weekend.
Thursday we had an awesome turkey. It was something like 26 lbs for 7 adults and 2 kids. It was a delicious bird and we got to have as much as we wanted for days. There was also creamed spinach (which I meant to have, but missed), stuffing, mashed potatoes and something else that is slipping my mind right now. We had some wine with dinner and
emilytheslayer had a creepy, horrifying flower in hers. Apparently people do that. Bleah.
After dinner, we had our traditional walk around the neighborhood, it lulled us into a false sense of security.
On Friday we had our traditional day-after-Thanksgiving-hike-in-a-park. We went to a new park as normally we went to Bell Island and this time wanted to change things up a bit. What we hadn't counted on was that it had rained a LOT not too long before and some of the trail was washed out. The first time we had this problem, a wodden bridge "over" the river was completely underwater. There was a paved road nearby and its bridge was well above the water, so we went over that and made our way back onto the trail. Soon, however, we came upon a low-lying section of trail that was just completely washed out and the water was fast-moving, deep and cold. We had no desire to try and wade across, so several of us scouted upstream while others stayed behind to see if the nearby log that was across the stream was a viable way of crossing.
We found some more easily accessible logs further up including one that I found to be quite sturdy as I walked out on it a little bit. However, I thought we should look a little more. I went away from teh river with
corvos while
blucrowlaughing went further upstream. I found the bike trail, a nice wide, level path and sent
corvos back to find
blucrowlaughing while I walked along the bike path a bit to see if I could find a bridge.
blucrowlaughing had found the bridge and was walking back along the bike path when I saw the bridge and her at the same time.
We used our cell phones to let the others know where we were and gathered on the bike path, continuing our journey with a sense of accomplishment, other than a little rain, the rest of the hike was quite nice.
As we were about to get back in our cars, a large group arrived. One of the men in the group smiled and nodded to me, so I said hello. Behind me, another person said "Hello Governor" and I thought, "How odd that someone would be Cockney here..." Shortly after we got in the car,
space_mice said to me "That was Governor Kane." I thought "Oh, that makes much more sense!"
The rest of Friday and the weekend later today. Now I must go eat naan.
