So, I heard Jon Stewart sucked. I heard the whole thing was bland and boring and all the wrong movies won. Is this true? I couldn't be bothered to watch it myself, only tuning in for Charleeze Theron's extra-dress-on-her-shoulder and lots of plush penguins. Honestly, that and Dustin Hoffman's stoned performance are all I saw. That and Mr. Stewart looking like he was thinking "Is it over yet?" with his Desperate Housewives crack.

A sports commentator made the suggestion, and I like it, that instead of traditional oscars we change the selection process to a playoff format. I like the idea. They can be seeded by nominating vote strength. You can do an award show every few days that only takes an hour and drag it out for 3 or 4 weeks! And it'd still be more interesting!

Ah, I hadn't realized he was in 2 movies last year.

I think he was even in more than that...
I was surprised Brokeback Mtn didn't do better. The concensus amoung those I know who have seen it is that it is very good.

It won a bunch of major awards, though. Best Director, Best Adapted Screenplay, and Best Original Score. That's not bad.

He really seemed out of it when he presented for Adapted Screenplay. Bad enough that that's why I turned the TV off.

I think he goes to the show stoned out of his mind pretty much every year. Roommate's boyfriend theorized that the 36 Mafia were the first to roll a fat blunt at the Oscar's, but I said, dude, Nicholson's there every year, and he always wears his sunglasses. They are not the first.

I have no idea who the 36 Mafia are.
And there have likely been people high at the Oscars since the very first one.

They are rappers. They performed the song from Hustle and Flow that won for Best Song, "It's Hard Out Here (For a Pimp)."

You are quite likely right.

Was there interpretive dance for that one? Because that I'll watch!

(I kept misremembering the title as "It'a a Hard Knock Life (For a Pimp)" which is very amusing, to me at least)

Sort of. There were lots of women who were supposed to be hookers dancing around, and some men wandering around. You both would have liked it, more than likely. :)

What's that crack supposed to mean? Are you suggesting [livejournal.com profile] head58 and I are the type to objectify women and hire hookers?! I've never made a hooker dance about to rap music in my entire life.

You know, I was going to go on about the supposed symbolism of the women dancing while the men wander, but it'd take more effort than I have to give today.

It means that you two are the type to appreciate scantily clad women dancing! That's all, I promise! Actually, the funniest moment in that bit was when I noticed that one of the women was wearing my socks. The knee-high rainbow stripe socks. I said something, and the roommate's boyfriend laughed and said, "So you're half-way to being a hooker, just get the rest of the outfit!"

Bleh! 1. No, it was spandex or something. 2. NO! Why would I want to?

1. I suppose knitting Spandex is out of the question.

2. ... 'cause then you'd have the rest of the outfit? I mean if it goes with the socks...

1. Yeah.
2. Eh, it didn't really go with them, and it was kind iof a scary hooker outfit anyway.

Oh well. I hadn't taken into account that they might be badly dressed hookers. Sorry about that.

I think that song also exists, didn't Jay-Z do that one? And smapled the Annie Hardknock Life? And had cute street uschins singing it in the video? Yeah, I'm pretty sure that was Jay-Z.

That's probably why it is cross-wired in my head. Thank you!

I may have dreamt it, but I swear there was a rap song that sampled "Hard Knock Life"...

Jay-Z did it back in...er...1999? Why do I know this? Because I was at the record store and we played it INCESSANTLY. And I remember ordering a billion of the import singles of it. :p
