In an earlier comment, [livejournal.com profile] chaoticmoth described himself as "Chaotic Neutral". I've always thought of myself as "Chaotic Good". What D&D alignment do you see yourself as? Do these characterizations fit Moth and I? Do we need more detail in some way?

*Feel free to try to top the lameness in your own post!

I've laways figured I'm Lawful Neutral with Good tendencies.

There's a quiz somewhere online where you can figure this out. I think I came out as a LN half-elven ranger/druid or somesuch.

Yeah, I think you're CG. Don't know moth well enough to comment.

I'm not interested in the character class/race aspect so much, just the alignment.

I only want to be chaotic neutral, in the end I am chaotic good because I just can't really be evil. :)

But being neutral doens't imply that you're good somethimes and evil others. It is more ambiguous than that. There are times you like to see what happens, knowing that the outcome might be negative and that's netural. Think Mad Scientist more than Evil Dictator.

I'm Lawful Good at heart, although I try to pass myself off as Neutral Good.

You claim to be Lawful and Good and yet you post with Sporticus to drive people mad!

But I like Sporticus!

I also have no idea what you are talking about in this post so I can't answer your question. :)

D&D has (had? have they changed it?) an "alignment" system that descried how your character broadly interacts with the world. It is made of two terms, the first being either Lawful, Neutral or Chaotic, the secong being either Good, Neeutral or Evil.

A Lawful character obeys rules and strives for consistancy
A Chaotic character is inherantly situational and will do different things at different times in the same situation often for the same reasons.
A Neutral character doesn't feel compelled by rules, but tends to be more constant than a chaotic character.

Good, Neutral and Evil are fairly self-explanitory, but I'll give it a shot if you'd like.

You combine these two sets to get:
Lawful Good
Lawful Neutral
Lawful Evil

Neutral Good
Neutral Neutral
Neutral Evil

Chaoic Good
Chaotic Neutral
Chaotic Evil.

Now that I've made a hash of this, would anyone like to help clarify?

X axis=good/neutral/evil
Y axis=lawful/neutral/chaotic

The visual representation always made it easier for me to understand.

That would be your lawful nature. :)

Maybe you should come up with famous people or well known characters who fit each category.

OK, I'd say Micha Auer is probably a good fit for Neutral Good in most of his movies

What? What do you mean "who?"!!!

You do love the obscure don't you. :)

It isn't that he's obscure. I really enjoyed him in movies when I was a kid and thought it was a shame he didn't get more roles. He was my second favorite "second banana" right behind Edward Everett Horton.

You would probably enjoy this site to have the names people think they don't know:

But they don't have Micha Auer!

Do you mean Mischa Auer? And no, they don't have either name.

Back to my comment about the obscure...... :)

Yep, I was forgetting the "s" in his name.
Look him up on IMDB. 176 credits!

How do you think I found the proper spelling? :)

D&D actually had only Lawful, Neutral, and Chaotic alignments. Good, Neutral and Evil where only added with the onset of AD&D and later editions. Technically you are correct as what is now D&D is essentially revised AD&D, but I am such a fan of the original and such a detester of AD&D that I thought it within my rights to quibble.

Having said this, I am Neutral Good. I do mostly what I can to help others, and I believe it important to follow the laws of society. However, I do think some laws need to be challenged at times, and I support the concept of a morality higher than human laws. Right and wrong are based on ethical considerations (and not religion). At the same time, I don't mind a little chaos, even if I do not always actively participate.

It is certainly within your rights to quibble.

Thanks for the Neutral definition, that was better than mine.

I'm on now! :)

We got twice the normal experience points when we made an 'arrest'. It made for speedy leveling of our characters.

Probably neutral good. I don't like stepping on other people's toes, but it's not out of some manner of civic obligation, I just don't like putting others out of their way.
