I know many of you that read my journal are historians, professional or amateur. Your assignment this week, and those that don’t consider themselves historians are welcome to play too, rank the Republican presidents since 1900 from worst to least bad. This isn’t just me railing against Republicans, I really want to know how others would rank them and why. Were there any good ones?
William McKinley
Theodore Roosevelt
William Howard Taft
Warren G. Harding
Calvin Coolidge
Herbert Hoover
Dwight D. Eisenhower
Richard M. Nixon
Gerald R. Ford
Ronald Regan
George H. W. Bush
George W. Bush
Next week, Democrats.

Date: 2004-04-27 01:52 pm (UTC)some thoughts
Date: 2004-04-27 02:59 pm (UTC)1. Dwight D. Eisenhower, cause he warned of the Military Industrial Complex
2. Theodore Roosevelt, cause he gave us the quote "walk softly yadda yadda" Also knew the US could not be isolationist. And he gave us National Parks.
3. Ronald Reagon, cause he was a great speaker, even when you hated what he was saying. In D&D terms, he had a high Charisma.
Wow, the rest of them are real doozies.
William McKinley
William Howard Taft
Warren G. Harding
Calvin Coolidge
Just cant judge these dudes.
Herbert Hoover failed to act fast enough to the depression.
Gerald R. Ford pardoned Nixon....
Richard M. Nixon should have been thrown in Jail, 'cause the man was a crazy crook
George H. W. Bush and George W. Bush .... Don't even get me started...

Date: 2004-05-03 12:45 pm (UTC)Theodore Roosevelt--because of the national parks thing, and I always thought he seemed a good sort. "A man, a plan, a canal..."
Dwight Eisenhower--not a bad leader and not quite the fascist many of his fellow GOPs turned out to be. Ordered complete desegregation of the armed forces, too.
William Howard Taft--because I sat next to his several-times-great
nephew in Morning Meeting all through high school. Hi, Tim!
William McKinley--murdered by anarchists is good...
Warren G. Harding--kicked off nice and quick, before he had a chance to cause trouble. Possibly the first GOP president to invent a silly new word as a campaign slogan(which I'm sure makes him Dubya's idol...)
This is where it gets dicey...
Herbert Hoover--always felt a little sorry for him, he made his mistakes but also took the sh-t for other people's
Calvin Coolidge--One of the aforementioned mistake-makers. It's OK to talk to people once in a while, Cal, jeez louise....
Gerald R. Ford--pardoned Nixon? Dude, seriously...but he did help launch Chevy Chase's comedy career...wait, that should rank him lower!
George H. W. Bush--a confirmed liar who sold his soul to the extreme right in order to get the VP nomination(remember "voodoo economics" Georgie? Remember when you were pro-choice??), whose past with the CIA is more than a little dirty. But he's still better than:
Ronald Reagan--either an evil machiavellian bastard or an addled old man who was used as a puppet king, or both. Either way, f-cked the economy in the a-- so badly that it took out boy Clinton to put it right.
This last bit is a tie:
George W. Bush--an incompetent, morally bankrupt twit who has proven that it is possible to have enough money to fail all the way to the top. Listening to his speeches makes me PHYSICALLY ILL, and I encourage all to go to www.democrats.com and sign the petition to have him declared insane.(almost over almost over do do do do do do)
Richard M. Nixon--not only an out-and-out criminal who I suspect was responsible for the Cuban Missle crisis, among other things, but I recently heard that he was also known to be physically abusive to his wife. And personaly an icky, unpleasant guy.
Whew! That was taxing...
Richard M. Nixon
