Since I went to work today, I went outside at noon and spent my lunch break listening to the inauguration in my car.

I have to say I was quite amused that Biden replaced Cheney, then noon arrived while music was playing meaning that Bush was no longer President and then at around 7 after Obama became President.

And Roberts screws up the oath? So strange. Were I being petty I'd say that shows the quality of the Right wing justices.

I was so very pleased that he emphasized science, that he discussed this nation's history good and bad and that he included non-believers in his speech.

The only part I didn't care for came early when he talked about us being at war with terrorism, but even that was ameliorated later in the speech.

I teared up quite a few times listening to the speech and just before listening to Arethra Franklin and the classical piece. It is at times like this that I am proudest of my nation.

May this administration live up to its promise.

Both of my classes thought that was the most effective part of the inauguration. I personally loved it...but I can see the other side.

I liked it, but wasn't that line a quote from the Civil Rights movement? Was it something he'd said back then or someone else?

We have a HDTV that is used for presentations to clients here in the office, and about half the office gathered to watch the proceedings.

Some nice subtle digs at Bush and his policies there, indicating course correction in action or in planning.

I only got to hear part of the speech at work because the internets were cutting out, but I caught the science bit and said, "YES!" out loud.
Just caught the whole thing on CSPAN, and teared up repeatedly.
The Tom Paine quote at the end really did me in.

If this administration delivers half of what it promises, the country will be vastly better off than it is now.

I liked in the address when he said it was our spirit as a people that would defeat terrorism.

You caught the non-believers line as well -- I marked that out as a surprise!

What about the "open hand - clenched fist" line -- I really thought that was powerful

I agree with those first two points wholeheartedly.

I liked the "open hand, clenched fist" lnie as well. I thought the later parts of the speech were a good counter to the "at war with terrroism" line early on.

I also like that he quoted the great American Dorothy Fields when he said "Pick yourself up, dust yourself off" and start all over again.
